Life insurance and burial benefits for Wyoming veterans

About 44,000 veterans live in Wyoming, and they have two burial options inside the state: Cheyenne National Cemetery, run by the VA, and the Oregon Trail State Veterans Cemetery in Evansville, where the plot is free for any veteran with a discharge other than dishonorable. A spouse or eligible child may also qualify. Qualifying veterans and surviving spouses can exempt $6,000 of assessed value through their county assessor. Counties help with burial only when a veteran leaves too little to pay for a funeral. Many families still face funeral home, service, and travel costs, which is why some veterans pair these benefits with a modest life insurance policy.

Life insurance options for Wyoming veterans

Military life insurance is federal, so the options are the same in every state: convert SGLI to VGLI after separation, apply for VALife if you have a service-connected rating, or buy private coverage. Healthy veterans often compare VGLI against private term life, since VGLI rates rise every five years.
