Transamerica Final Expense Review: FE Express & Solutions (2026)

Transamerica sells simplified issue final expense whole life through agents, led by FE Express Solution (ages 18 to 85, up to $100,000 at younger ages) and the Immediate Solution (ages 0 to 85, up to $50,000). The strengths are high coverage limits and fast digital decisions; the trade-off is a complaint index well above the national baseline for its individual life business.

Key takeaways

  • Transamerica FE Express Solution covers ages 18 to 85 with face amounts from $5,000 up to $100,000 for ages 18 to 75, and $25,000 for ages 76 to 85.
  • The Immediate Solution covers ages 0 to 85 with $1,000 to $50,000 of coverage, and the maximum drops in steps as issue age rises.
  • Full-benefit plans pay from day one; the graded version pays 110% of premiums paid for a non-accidental death in the first two policy years.
  • Transamerica Life Insurance Company lists an AM Best A (Excellent) rating via a February 13, 2026 report.
  • Its NAIC individual life complaint index was 4.48 for 2025, above the 1.00 national baseline, and covers all of its individual life business.

Transamerica sells final expense whole life insurance through agents, mainly its FE Express Solution and its Immediate Solution. Both use health questions instead of a medical exam, and both offer higher coverage limits than many burial policies: up to $100,000 on FE Express for ages 18 to 75. The trade-off is that Transamerica's complaint index for individual life insurance runs well above the national baseline.

One detail to check: Transamerica's January 2024 FE Express brochure listed a $50,000 maximum for ages 18 to 75, while the company's current page lists $100,000. Ask the agent for the limit that applies in your state today.

What else does FE Express include?

The FE Express brochure lists these features:

  • Level premiums payable to age 100 on FE Express (age 121 on the graded version).
  • A $42 yearly policy fee.
  • Cash value you can borrow against, at a variable loan rate that can't exceed 8%.
  • Monthly or annual payments by credit card, debit card, or the Social Security Direct Express card.

The Concierge Planning Rider adds funeral planning help from Everest Funeral Concierge at no added premium, where approved. Everest is an outside company, not part of Transamerica. The rider isn't available in Oregon, and in Florida it's offered as a separate service outside the policy.

What about the 10-Pay Solution and Easy Solution?

Transamerica's earlier Final Expense Solutions Portfolio materials also named a 10-Pay Solution and an Easy Solution, with a $25,000 maximum on Easy Solution for ages 18 to 80. The company's current page lists only FE Express and the Immediate Solution by name. If an agent offers you either of the older products, ask for the current brochure for your state before you apply.

How do Transamerica's graded benefits and waiting periods work?

The full-benefit plans, FE Express and the Immediate Solution, pay the full face amount from the first day the policy is in force. There's no waiting period for natural causes, though, like all life insurance, the policy can be contested for misstatements during the first two years.

If your health answers don't qualify you for full coverage, you may be offered Transamerica Graded FE Express Solution. According to the brochure, it covers ages 18 to 80 with $5,000 to $25,000 of coverage. If you die of a non-accidental cause in the first two policy years, the benefit is limited to 110% of the premiums you paid, minus any loan balance. After two years, it pays the full face amount for any cause.

For example, a hypothetical graded policyholder who paid $1,000 in premiums and died of illness in year one would leave about $1,100, not the face amount. An accidental death during that period pays the face amount. For more on how these designs compare, see our guide to guaranteed issue and graded death benefits.

How strong is Transamerica financially, and what do complaints show?

Transamerica's financial strength page lists these ratings for Transamerica Life Insurance Company:

Agency

Rating

Report date

AM Best

A (Excellent), third of 16 categories

February 13, 2026

S&P Global

A+, fifth of 21 categories

April 6, 2026

Moody's

A1, fifth of 21 categories

December 5, 2025

These ratings reflect the company's ability to pay claims over time. They don't measure service or price.

The NAIC complaint index compares a company's share of closed, confirmed complaints to its share of premiums. The national baseline is 1.00. A score above 1.00 means more complaints than expected for the company's size; below 1.00 means fewer.

In the NAIC Consumer Insurance Search, data as of September 29, 2026 for Transamerica Life Insurance Company (NAIC code 86231) shows:

Year

Individual life complaint index

Closed confirmed complaints

2025

4.48

321

2024

4.26

310

These figures cover all of Transamerica Life's individual life insurance business, not just final expense, and the NAIC report doesn't break out complaints by product. Still, an index above 4 means complaints ran at more than four times the rate expected for the company's premium volume. Your state insurance department can share details on complaints filed where you live.

Transamerica final expense pros and cons

Pros

  • High coverage limits for final expense: up to $100,000 on FE Express for ages 18 to 75, per Transamerica's current page.
  • Wide age range, including the Immediate Solution for ages 0 to 85.
  • Full-benefit plans pay the face amount from day one.
  • Fast digital decisions, with FE Express policies delivered in as little as 10 minutes.
  • Funeral planning concierge rider at no added premium on FE Express, where approved.
  • Ratings of A from AM Best and A+ from S&P as listed by the company in 2026.

Cons

  • Individual life complaint index of 4.48 in 2025 and 4.26 in 2024, well above the 1.00 baseline.
  • Coverage limits drop to $25,000 after age 75.
  • Not sold in New York.
  • FE Express requires a digital application; there's no paper option.
  • The graded plan pays only 110% of premiums for natural-cause deaths in the first two years.
  • Product names and limits have changed over time, so older materials may not match what's sold now.

Who may Transamerica fit, and who should look elsewhere?

Transamerica may fit you if you're in fair to good health and want more final expense coverage than many carriers allow, especially if you're 75 or younger. It may also suit you if you're comfortable with a fast, digital application through an agent, or if you want to pay with a Direct Express card.

You may want to look elsewhere if you live in New York, if you're older than 85, or if complaint history weighs heavily in your decision. If a serious health condition rules out simplified issue coverage, compare guaranteed issue options using our guide to guaranteed vs. simplified issue policies. If you're buying for someone older, our guide to final expense insurance for seniors over 70 covers what changes with age.

Frequently asked questions

Can I buy Transamerica final expense insurance directly online?

Transamerica presents its final expense products through agents and financial professionals. FE Express Solution uses an all-digital application, and Transamerica says you can answer the health questions online or with your agent, but you'll still work with a licensed agent to buy.

See final expense options
Is Transamerica final expense available in New York?

No. Transamerica's FE Express brochure says the product is not available in New York, and Transamerica Life Insurance Company is licensed in every state except New York. New York residents would need to look at other carriers.

See final expense options
Can I pay Transamerica final expense premiums with my Social Security card?

Transamerica's FE Express brochure lists credit card, debit card, and the Social Security Direct Express Debit Mastercard as payment options, with monthly or annual modes. Ask your agent which options apply to the specific policy you're offered.

See final expense options
Does Transamerica have a funeral planning service with its final expense policies?

FE Express Solution can include the Concierge Planning Rider at no additional premium where approved. It connects you with Everest Funeral Concierge, an outside company, for funeral planning help, legal document tools, and funeral home price comparisons. It is not available in Oregon, and in Florida it is offered outside the policy.

See final expense options
Will a Transamerica final expense policy cover my whole funeral?

Not necessarily. Transamerica's brochure says this life insurance does not specifically cover funeral goods or services, may not cover the full cost of your funeral, and the face amount won't automatically rise with funeral prices. Your beneficiary can use the money for any purpose.

Best Life Insurance Options for Veterans (2026)

The best life insurance for a veteran depends on your situation: VGLI fits recently separated veterans who want to keep up to $500,000 without a health review, and VALife fits veterans with any service-connected rating who want up to $40,000 of lifelong coverage. Private term life often costs less for healthy veterans who need large coverage for a set number of years, and private final expense coverage can fill gaps for older veterans.
